Mayor Greg Fischer, who is a successful businessman as well as an award-winning public official, also visited the Nuclear AMRC, AMRC Castings and other facilities on the Advanced Manufacturing Park.

His visit was sparked by a visit earlier this year, involving city development expert Bruce Katz, vice president of the Brookings Institution and a former adviser to President Obama.

Mr Katz has been advising Sheffield and Rotherham Councils' economic development arms and The University of Sheffield on their bid to create the UK's first Innovation District, based around the AMP and Sheffield Business Park, home to the AMRC's new Factory 2050 development.

Mayor Fischer was shown around the AMRC by projects director John Baragwanath and accompanied by Cllr Denise Lelliott, Rotherham Council's Advisory Cabinet Member for Housing and the Local Economy and Cllr Leigh Bramall, Sheffield City Council Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Business Skills and Development.
