Snowflakes sparkle for children’s charity

A sparkling display of snowflakes lighting up the University of Sheffield Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre (AMRC) have helped Sheffield Children’s Hospital Charity raise more than £330,000 for its cancer and leukaemia award appeal.

There are 16 illuminated snowflakes forged from Sheffield steel adorning the front of Factory of the Future and the windows of the Design and Prototyping Centre, which have been sponsored by AMRC with Boeing, TWI Ltd, Morrisons supermarket at Catcliffe, Sheffield Business Park, and the Co-op on Chapel Street at Woodhouse.

The University of Sheffield AMRC is a long-standing supporter of Sheffield Children’s NHS Foundation Trust,, hosting raffles, bake sales and sponsored events throughout the year to raise money for the hospital. Many of these are organised by Anita Spafford, the AMRC’s hospitality co-ordinator.

Anita said the AMRC was delighted to back the appeal, with the sponsored snowflakes at the research centre raising £6,300 towards the grand total.  She added: “It’s lovely to see the Advanced Manufacturing Park shining bright with festive cheer with these beautiful forged steel snowflakes at the AMRC but, more importantly, we’re honoured and humbled to support this wonderful campaign which will help those children who need it most.”

It has raised a whopping £336,200 for the £2.75m appeal to transform the cancer and leukaemia ward at Sheffield Children’s NHS Foundation Trust.

Jennie Everill, Corporate Partnerships Officer for The Children’s Hospital Charity said: “We’re pleased that the University of Sheffield AMRC has chosen to support the appeal. Every penny raised will help transform the cancer and leukaemia ward at Sheffield Children’s Hospital for children who depend on our hospital’s excellent care.”
